Mobile Device Chat Apps and Internet Safety Presentation

Detectives from the Spring Hill Police Department and Williamson County Sheriff’s Office will give a presentation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Refuge Church in Spring Hill (2001 Campbell Station Pkwy. A-7), on current trends of online child exploitation.

Detectives will talk about the role of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, “sextortion,” the role of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, an overview of some popular mobile chat applications and how predators use them to communicate with children, and a brief overview of the “dark web.”

The detective from the WCSO will also address current trends observed in the school district related to juveniles and their use of mobile devices. Electronics detection K-9, “Remi,” also will be on hand for a meet-and-greet.

This presentation is for parents or guardians who have elementary to high school-aged children who have access to devices that connect to the internet. This presentation is not suitable for children.
