The Spring Hill Police Department (SHPD) was notified by the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP) that they meet the conditions for certification on the Presidential Executive Order on Safe Policing for Safe Communities. The SHPD was required to meet two standards in order to be credentialed:
- That the agency’s use of force policies prohibit chokeholds, except in situations where the use of deadly force is allowed by law;
- That the agency’s use of force policies adhere to all applicable federal, state and local laws.
This credential allows the SHPD to be eligible to receive federal grants for three years beginning from December of 2020. The SHPD also maintains Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation from the TACP. This means that all of our policies and procedures conform to standards created by the TACP.
